PHYSICAL FEATURES
The Jharkhand region lies to the south of Bihar and encompasses Santhal Parganas and Chota Nagpur. It is a plateau region about 1000 metres above sea level, which features densely forested hill ranges. The highest part of the plateau is Netarhat (1100 metres). The Parasnath Hill is the highest point in the state (1500 metres).
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
According to legend, Raja Jai Sing Deo of Orissa had declared himself the ruler of Jharkhand in the 13th century. In post- Independence era, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha started a regular agitation which impelled the government to establish the Jharkhand Area Autonomous Council in 1995.

POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT
15 November 2000 - Jharkhand came into existence as
the 28th State of the Union.
